Sample Food Stories
As a student who lives in an apartment with a kitchen, I often cook my meals most days. For my dining plan, I selected the cheapest option which is still $700 per semester in dining dollars that can be used on campus. Although I am able to cook, I am unable to purchase everything I need at the Bison and I have to drive to a grocery store and I can’t utilize my meal plan. Although I could just eat the food on campus, I enjoy the diversity of the meals I cook at home and the convenience of eating something in my apartment where I don’t have to walk down to a dining location on campus.
Food insecurity has been a struggle for me while I’ve been here at Bucknell. Even though I have unlimited cafe swipes and just $75 a semester of Bison money, I find myself skipping meals or just choosing not to eat because of the quality of food. I go in at dinner time to the cafeteria and find myself eating a bowl of cereal or a plate of french fries. This is in no way nutritious enough to hold up with my school work and athletics. I also do not have enough money or time to consistently buy groceries at the store in order for me to be properly fed.
